The Rail-Trail is used by different users all year long, including cross country skiers in the winter.
The 38 mile D&H Rail-Trail runs from Simpson viaduct at Route 171 north through Lanesboro to the New York State border, generally following the eastern border of Susquehanna County. Towns include Simpson, Forest City, Union Dale, Burnwood, Ararat, Thompson, Starrucca, Stevens Point, and Lanesboro.

The O&W Rail-Trail also begins in Simpson and runs parallel o the D&H for eight miles, with the Lackawanna River in between. Using both rail-trails, a loop trip of 16 miles is possible. Linkage to hiking trails and Panther's Bluff, a 1500 acre conservation area is possible from the O&W trail.
